Agriturismo Il Muto di Gallura, Aggius - Sardinia
Consisting of characteristic apartments and small brick houses situated among cork trees in the north of Sardinia, Il Muto di Gallura is the perfect place to unwind whilst getting in contact with nature.
About the accommodation
Il Muto di Gallura, provided with a small outdoor pool, is the perfect place to stay for the traveler in search of tranquility, space and slow food. It’s located in a wooded area near the village of Aggius; a small, picturesque town with a small historic city centre and known for her two musea, and within a 30 minute-drive from the beach.
The name of the accommodation refers to an exceeding story. During the 1800s a quarrel that would last for years arose between two families. The feud cost many a shepherd his life. Nowadays people still talk about this infamous “Muto di Gallura”.
The farm house is situated on an estate of approximately 500 hectares. From September 1st till February 1st the hunting season for boars, hares, ducks and quails is opened. The high quality restaurant is known for its biological products and traditional cuisine consisting of homemade delicacies such as ravioli with ricotta cheese, wild boar, savoury cheeses and tasty sausages. The agriturismo’s own white and red wines complete the meal.
Il Muto di Gallura offers even more than that; you can go on various excursions on foot, by Jeep, on horseback or enjoy a unique donkey ride or a trip to Aggius in an ox-drawn carriage.

Aggius
Aggius is located in the province of Olbia-Tempio, ca. 55 kilometres west of Olbia, bordering the larger villages Aglientu, Tempio Pausania and Trinito d’Agultu. This authentic village is situated at the foot of the granite mountain Monte di Aggius, at an altitude of 514 metres above sea level. Aggius is renowned for its traditionally woven tapestries.
The area is known for the presence of “stazzi”, rectangular houses in Sardinian granite, consisting of 1 or 2 rooms, originally used by shepherds as a stopover or shelter on their journeys. Through the years most of them have been turned into houses or agriturismi.
We recommend visiting the Valle della Luna, a labyrinth of wind shaped granite rocks.
On the first Sunday in October the Festa di li Aggiani (i.e. festival for unmarried men) is held, where “suppa cuata” is served; bread with cheese soup.
