Nuraghe
Sardinia is also the land of the Nuraghe. Remnants of these cone-shaped defenses can be found all over the island.
A number of the more than 7,000 nuraghe can also be visited. If you are in the vicinity of Barumini during your trip through Sardinia, then be sure to take a look at the most complete one: Nuraghe Su Nuraxi .

Caves
There are many caves on the island and many of them can be visited. The Caves of Neptunes in Alghero , which you can only reach by sea or via a staircase of 655 steps carved out of the rock is by far the best known. Other beautiful specimens, but in the east, are the Caves of Ispignoli and Bue Marino. Are you traveling through the south of Sardinia? Then visit the Is Zuddas Caves, near Santadi.
Flamingos
On the island there are several salt lakes where you can spot the graceful pink flamingos with a little luck. The birds fly up and down to the various salt lakes, so when exactly you can find them is difficult to indicate. The best places to spot the flamingos are the Stagno di Cabras in the west, Stagno di Molentargius in Cagliari to the south, and the lakes of San Teodoro to the north-east.
Events
The island attaches great importance to village festivals and events. These are often accompanied by traditional costumes that provide a colorful spectacle, dance, song and of course mangiare (food). Fun and well-known events that you can visit during your holiday in Sardinia are for example Sant'Efisio in Cagliari, La Sartiglia in Oristano, Girotonno on the island of San Pietro or Barbagia in Autunno in the fall.
Cork
Sardinia is one of the main producers of cork ( sughero ). The island owes this to the many cork oaks that grow on the island. Have a look at Calangianus, in the north of the island. Here the trees keep the little secret for a good wine : cork! Every tree is stripped of its bark every 10 to 12 years. There are therefore countless small companies that are engaged in debarking the cork oaks and then processing them into a bottle cork, souvenir or for example as a "tray" for serving the traditional dish porcheddu
Pecorino
You will find the most delicious sheep cheese in Sardinia: pecorino sardo ! It is not without reason that there are so many sheep on the island. Pecorino is one of the oldest types of cheese in the world. Like countless products, many Sardinians naturally make this cheese themselves from their own sheep's milk. The pecorino is not only available as a young cheese, but also as semi-stagionato and stagionato . The latter is a very old cheese and deliciously spicy in taste (tip: delicious in combination with a glass of Cannonau!). Have you ever heard of the sharp sheep's cheese casu marzu ? This is the "worm cheese", which actually results from being allowed to ripen for an extremely long time until the larvae of the cheese fly settle in the sheep's cheese. The sale of casu marzu is no longer allowed, but the Sardinians do not care much about it and simply make this spicy cheese in-house.
Blue Zone
A special fact: the island is part of the Blue Zones of the world. These are only 5 places on earth where people live longer, more vital and healthier. This of course has everything to do with the pure way of life. The secret? Daily long walks, eating fresh products exclusively from your own piece of land and of course fully enjoying la famiglia and amici .
As a resident of the island, I know better than anyone what Sardinia has to offer. We also introduce you the icons of Sardinia during your holiday! Tell me about your holiday wishes ; I'll be happy to give you personal advice.
