Hotel Monte Maccione, Oliena - Sardinia
High above the mountain village of Oliena, on the slope of the Monte Maccione massif and hidden in a cork oak forest, lies the small hotel Monte Maccione. Here you can enjoy a fantastic view, a delicious kitchen and simply relax under the trees in the shade, but also participate in the many sports activities provided by the accommodation. All these elements make this small hotel perfect for a holiday in the mountains of Sardinia for hikers, mountain bikers and motorcyclists.
A holiday in the mountains of Sardinia
A mountain hotel in Sardinia? But of course! Follow the endless hairpin turns to the hotel and you will find yourself in the middle of the Supramonte mountain range. You will find plenty of places around the accommodation where you can relax in peace and quiet after an intense day outdoors. From the lounge and restaurant you can enjoy the unique view of Monte Corrasi, the Lanaittu Valley and the rugged mountains of central Sardinia.
Simply furnished rooms
The most popular rooms in the Hotel Monte Maccione - which are of course also the fastest booked - are the "Terrazza" rooms with a view. There are also a number of cheaper standard rooms that still offer access to the panoramic terrace. The "small" rooms are equipped with a French bed and are therefore fine for 1 adult or 2 children. All rooms are functionally furnished with rustic wooden furniture and - as usual in a mountain hotel - have heating.
Beautiful walks through nature
Monte Maccione used to be a leisure center for children and today offers holidaymakers the opportunity to book a stay in nature. A hike to Monte Maccione can be started directly from the hotel. Just under 3.5 kilometers, but to a height of 320 meters. For this walking route you have to allow about three and a half hours. Just a few minutes' drive from the hotel, the trail begins for a day trip on the ridge of the Punta Corrasi. To climb this high plateau you have to take about five hours into account. An impressive stone desert high above the valleys of the Supramonte. So impressive in itself that director John Huston decided to shoot some scenes here in 1966 for his movie "The Bible". If you don't want to climb the highest mountains in Sardinia, you can also visit the western slope of the mountain Maccione. From the hotel you can start various walks through the holm oak forests. In the evening we recommend that you enjoy the house's delicious mountain kitchen. Because the hotel is run by various families from Oliena, they know how to surprise you with traditional delicacies. And to be honest, if you also like to have a glass of Cannonau with dinner, it is not wise to drive back up the winding road in the dark.
A perfect stay for those...
Monte Maccione is a nice holiday spot if you want to make a tour in the mountains of Sardinia and of course also for all active holidaymakers such as hikers, climbers and motorcyclists. Small, simple and affordable, in the middle of nature.

Oliena
Oliena is located in the heart of Sardinia, a few kilometres south of Nuoro. The cosy traditional mountain village has a rich history. Oliena is a popular area among hikers, mountain bikers, naturists and travellers in search of tranquillity. Oliena is known for its cuisine and the rich Nepente wine.
We recommend visiting the ancient valley Valle di Lanaiuttu, overlooked by the high ridges of the Supramonte. Past the famous well Su Gologone follow the signs to Lanaittu (note: the final part of the road isn’t all paved but it’s well-passable). Other interesting places to visit in the area are Dorgali and Cala Gonone.

Discover the province of Nuoro in east Sardinia
It's like time has stood still in the versatile province of Nuoro, known for its unique coastline and pristine nature. Nuoro is the least densely populated region of the island. Through the years neither the Romans, Carthaginians nor any other foreign conquerors have succeeded in invading the area, because of which it's been able to develop its own culture. Nowadays Nuoro's unique folklore and traditions are still visible during the local festivities.
