Discover the north-western province of Sassari

The old town consists of a maze of narrow cobbled alleys, decorated with laundry hanging out to dry on drying racks and makeshift clothes lines tied from balcony to balcony. In the city centre you can enjoy a stroll along the various piazzas with restaurants, bars, cafes and ice cream parlours or relax on the shaded terraces cooled by a fresh sea breeze. At night, as the sun sets behind cape Capo Caccia, the city is bathed in a beautiful orange light.

This coastline is also known as the “Riviera del Corallo”, the coral coast. The versatile shores are characterized by broad sandy beaches and spectacular cliffs disappearing into a clear blue sea. In and near Alghero there are various sandy beaches. We recommend visiting Le Bombarde and its white sand and turquoise waters. Within a one-hour drive from Alghero the fishing village Stintino and its beautiful child-friendly La Pelosetta beach are definitely worth a visit too. Should you wish to explore even more beautiful beaches and bays, we highly recommend crossing to the small island Asinara, which is inhabited by wild albino donkeys. Both the island and the marine area have been a part of the national parks system of Italy since 1997.
